Hospitality at its very best

The Tighnabruaich Facebook group post also generated an offer of an overnight stop, just five minutes from the ferry in Dunoon.

Jeannie had said “we have an exclusive smallholding and I’m sure we can find you a spot”.

They do indeed have a beautiful place, all twenty acres of it and we were happy to go where directed. 😁

The only difficulty had been wrenching ourselves away from the introductions as we had a lot to talk about. Kevin and his brother had run a garage business near Rochdale,  including Land Rover parts supply, up to their retirement and so there was a lot to talk about.

Tea was offered and cake too, as we continued the discussions that covered truck repairs and hydraulic hose and then moved on to business improvement using value stream mapping.

The grounds were amazing as there’s a huge pond, four acres of grass to closely mow and a shed.

The shed is my dream. Inside is a Fordson Dexta and Major, various implements, a workshop, woodburner and radio. What else is needed?

We walked up a forest road to the camel’s hump viewpoint to look over Dunoon to the Clyde and Gourock. The start of the Arrochar alps were bathed in sunlight to the north. It must have been incredible in the past to watch huge ships moving up and down the lochs. Amongst the many built on the Clyde are the Queen Mary and QE2 plus HMS Hood.

Back at the smallholding, the deer had come close to the lawn with a stag hassling the females, almost trapping them against the fence. We were to hear rutting noise throughout the night.

Also we saw a red squirrel, the first of many I feel. These are quite small, almost delicate and there’s no wonder they have been overrun by the beefier greys in England.

Jeannie and Kevin run a holiday cottage in the grounds and it’s only right that they get a link to it here. Heronlea Cottage, Dunoon

Looks like a nice place for travellers without landys to stay
